fake hate crimes: a database of hate crime hoaxes in the usa

The purpose of this site is to compile a comprehensive database of the false reports of "hate crimes" committed (mostly) in the USA. It builds on the work of Laird Wilcox, whose Crying Wolf (PDF) is the original book on this subject. The books Hate Crime Hoax and Hate Crimes: Criminal Law & Identity Politics are also recommended.

summary
In an email sent by Michigan State University on April 2, eight recommendations were given to handle COVID-19. Staff, faculty, and students were encouraged to sign MSU’s “Hate Has No Home Here” pledge. Sent by Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS), the recommendations will make “this process more manageable for all of us.” The term "novel coronavirus" was stated as the “correct term." The school asserted that “no other names are acceptable." MSU encourages students to be an “upstander" by standing up to “racist, dog-whistle, ageist, xenophobic, classist or other speech that divides our community.” Offenders can be snitched on the website "Stop AAPI Hate".
